Easter

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die." - John 11: 25-26

Easter, also called Resurrection Sunday, is a day of celebration for the life Jesus offers to each of us. This day marks the end of Lent—a season of reflection on Jesus' sacrifice and on the things in our lives that keep us from embracing a relationship with him. On Easter, we focus on Jesus' resurrection—the fulfillment of prophecy and a declaration that death and sin do not have the final word. When we choose to believe in Jesus, he offers us a new life, one of hope and promise for the things to come. Celebrate Jesus as the resurrection and the life at Crossings this Easter!

Holy Week

In the book of John, Jesus uses "I Am" statements to reveal his nature and character to us. This year, engage in each event throughout Holy Week and discover how each one points to the truth of who Jesus says he is. Participating in the entire Holy Week experience—Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday—will prepare you for the most meaningful and joyful Easter Sunday. Spend the week reflecting on Jesus' final days leading up to his ultimate display of love, before celebrating the empty tomb and his triumph over death.

Palm Sunday

As Jesus entered Jerusalem for the festival of Passover, the crowd was surprised to see him on a donkey. It was not the over-the-top display they were anticipating from the man they expected to save them from their political and cultural circumstances. Still, they celebrated him, waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel” (John 12:13). They knew he was the prophesied Savior—though they didn't fully understand what he was sent to save them from. His entry into the city of Jerusalem was the beginning of his making a way for each of us to be in the presence of God.

The Palm Sunday service commemorates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. On this Sunday, Crossings Kids parade through each service waving palm branches in remembrance of the arrival of our Savior.

Maundy Thursday

At the Last Supper on the night before his death, Jesus shared a Passover meal with his disciples. During this meal, Jesus took bread and wine and blessed them. He broke the bread, saying “This is my body, given up for you,” and offered the wine, saying “This is my blood, poured out for you … Do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19-20). This is what the practice of Communion is modeled after—a sacred time to reflect on and thank Jesus for his sacrifice and the ultimate example of love.

The Maundy Thursday service includes a message from Pastor Terry Feix at Crossings OKC and taking part in communion. This service is an opportunity to reflect on Jesus' last instructions to his disciples leading up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
